A mermaid, her gaze fixed beyond the present. An octopus, resilient, adaptable, at home in the unknown.

I can tell you what's in the painting. I can't tell you what it means to you — that part was never mine to decide.

Some see resilience. Some see permission. Some see a version of themselves they haven't quite met yet. Whatever you see is exactly what it's meant to show you.

This piece was painted during a year that shifted something in me. Watching My Octopus Teacher while I sat in my own uncertainty, I found something steadying in her adaptability, her quiet ability to regenerate after loss. That same year, in Tobago, I watched leatherback turtles lay their eggs on the beach, and later helped their hatchlings find their way to the ocean — witnessing both the beginning and the instinct to survive. Nature's inner knowing became something I wanted to hold onto, and to paint.
